The main reason for me starting this blog was to keep a record of everything I bake, not to try and show the world what an amazing baker I am.
Which is why I am going to overcome my embarrassment to share the following pictures, of a certified baking disaster.
This should have been my entry for the November We Should Cocoa challenge – Toffee Apple Millionaires Shortbread. Sounds nice, right?
Well it probably would have been, but somewhere along the line something went wrong, and this is what happened when I tried to cut the bars:
Yep, that’s one huge, sloppy embarrassing mess. I don’t know if the caramel was just to thin to start with, or if the chocolate was too hot and made it split, but it is most definitely a disaster, and will not be my We Should Cocoa entry!
If anyone has tried this recipe and succeeded, please let me know what I might have done wrong!

That looks one of the nicest recipes combining apples and chocolate that I’ve seen, such a shame that it didn’t work!
I wonder if the caramel could have drawn out some of the juices from the apples? The first time I made caramel for Millionaire’s Shortbread I wasn’t sure how thick it needed to be, and didn’t cook it enough, so it didn’t set properly.
oh poor you – bet it tasted gorgeous tho non the less – never mind keep going – you have proven you are human after all ha ha and i wont feel so bad when i too have my next cooking disaster
big hugs from 2 xxx
Suelle, you definitely could be right about the apples, when the caramel was just cooling in a bowl it seemed fine…
Jo, there’s still plenty left if you aren’t too put off by the photo and want to try some! x
Oh noooo, I feel your pain, a baking disaster is gutting – I have a cake pop related one that I will be blogging about soon.Funnily enough most of my cake related disasters so far have involved fruit – I can’t offer any solution sadly but I wonder if they are just a tricky ingredient!
I’ve never tried cake pops – they look tricky! You should definitely post it though to make me feel better
What a shame. I’ve never tried making millionaires shortbread, so have no tips to give you. But it does sound good. Hope it tasted good anyway. Are you sure you don’t want to include it for WSC – it’s a lovely idea?
I think I’m too embarrassed to submit it, I bet everyone has done some amazing looking baking! I’ll wait for next month’s challenge to be announced – Im’ hoping it’ll be something Christmassy?!
